University of Georgia Law School Student Jonathan Fagundes Is the Recipient of the 2021 Harris Lowry Manton LLP Civil Justice Scholarship

Harris Lowry Manton LLP is pleased to announce that Jonathan Fagundes, a first-year student at the University of Georgia School of Law, has been awarded the Harris Lowry Manton LLP Civil Justice Scholarship for 2021.

Jonathan is a native of La Grange, Ga., and earned his B.A. in Political Science and Women’s Studies from the University of Georgia’s School of Professional and International Affairs. He is a First Honor Graduate and a recipient of the Presidential Award of Excellence. He also earned a Public Affairs Professional Certificate from the University of Georgia.

While in college, Jonathan worked as a research assistance as well as the website manager for The Congress Project, which “provides stories and context behind important legislation considered by the U.S. Congress.”

Jonathan’s deep commitment to the environment led him to an internship with Chattahoochee Riverkeeper, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the Chattahoochee River Basin. He also served as a Strategic Operations and Planning Assistance Fellow in Environmental Affairs for the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute for Government.

For the last six years, Jonathan interned for the offices of the late U.S. Congressman John Lewis and U.S. Congressman Drew Ferguson, as well as the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s office. His work with Congressman’s Lewis’ office inspired his application essay for the Harris Lowry Manton LLP Civil Justice Scholarship – and it was that essay which helped make Jonathan the firm’s top choice out of nearly 100 applicants from across the country.

“Jonathan’s impressive essay – which focused on how his internship with the late U.S. Congressman and Civil Rights leader John Lewis helped him realize the monumental importance of the right to trial by jury – stood out as being truly exceptional,” said Harris Lowry Manton LLP founding partner Steve Lowry.

“Dedicated students like Jonathan represent the future of trial law in Georgia,” added Harris Lowry Manton LLP founding partner Jed Manton. “We’re delighted to present Jonathan with the 2021 Harris Lowry Manton LLP Civil Justice Scholarship and to support his goal of becoming a lawyer.”

The Harris Lowry Manton LLP Civil Justice Scholarship is an annual award of $5,000. Incoming and enrolled law students are eligible to apply. The firm is currently accepting applications for 2022.

Jonathan Fagundes is an extraordinary young man, and we expect big things from him in the future. Please join us in congratulating him on receiving the Harris Lowry Manton LLP Civil Justice Scholarship this year!
